In June 2024, Edwin Torres and David Rothenberg made the trek to central Illinois, Abraham Lincoln country, to experience a once-in-221 year event: the convergence of 17 and 13 year broods of cicadas.

David Rothenberg

Musician and philosopher David Rothenberg has written Why Birds Sing, Bug Music, Survival of the Beautiful, and many other books, published in at least eleven languages. He has more than thirty recordings out, including One Dark Night I Left My Silent House, and most recently In the Wake of Memories and Faultlines. He has performed or recorded with Pauline Oliveros, Peter Gabriel, Ray Phiri, Suzanne Vega, Scanner, Elliott Sharp, Iva Bittová, and the Karnataka College of Percussion. Nightingales in Berlin is his latest book and film. Rothenberg is Distinguished Professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Edwin Torres is editor of The Body In Language: An Anthology (Counterpath Press) and many poetry collections, including; Quanundrum: i will be your many angled thing (Roof Books, which received a 2022 American Book Award), Xoeteox: the collected word object (Wave Books) and Ameriscopia (University of Arizona Press). Multi-disciplinary collaborations with a wide range of cultural nomads have contributed to the development of his bodylingo poetics. A recipient of numerous poetry fellowships, this year he received an Individual Artist's Grant from Arts Mid-Hudson. He currently lives in Beacon, NY.
